Hi all... I went for a small trip with frnds in Tiago XZ D... Total kms covered was 1500. Started from chennai -Trichy - Rameswaram - Kanyakumari- Trivandrum - Varkala- Kollam and ended at hometown Tirunelveli.
Except for 300km rest 1200kms were on single roads n village roads.
Overall mileage was 19kmpl. The low mileage is due to the harsh n notorious kerala roads.
Steering is awesome in all aspects. Be it highways or pothole roads. Easily maneuverable . I was able to do quick cuts in most overtaking situations on kerala roads.
But engine pickup is less so very hard reviving is needed . I was a bit hesitant to do such hard reviving but when my frnd drove he was touching 70 in 3rd gear n when Rpm is more than 3000 in 3rd gear , pickup seems to be very good. But being the owner , I couldn't bear the engine being roughed up like that. Noise seems to getting on my nerves. I never tried such overtakes untill my frnd did it n he was happy with the performance being the owner of Duster.
Before handing over the car to him , I warned him abt the less pickup but once he drove he said I was being soft on engine n thats y I wasnt able to use it to the full potential.
I saw some ppl saying that they werent able to drive in ghats n hills. I shud disagree with them. Probably they were not tuned to the Tiago engine style.
I encountered some heavy traffic in some wierd roads Kerala which are very steep. Traffic moving inch by inch in a steep hill of abt 30 to 40degrees. When I went downhill on those , I couldn't sleep that night thinking how am I going to drive uphill in the same road the next day.
But Tiago rocked... I was able to manage that road with lot of brakes while going uphill. Thanks to those dumb drivers who weren't giving way to a vehicle climbing uphill. Coz of them I was able to test the full potential. I never used handbrakes. At most uphill situations I kept the car standstill by adjusting the clutch in 1st gear. But I don't know technically if it will affect the clutch plate or engine. The thing is Tiago can manage any roads. Thats all I need.
Headlights are fine for hills driving but fog lamps are of less use.
Brake is another notable thing in hill driving. Tiagos brakes are very good at it. With ABS , confidence level is increased.
But I felt the hand brakes are a bit fussy. Need to chk it in next service.
Overall I had a good experience with Tiago . Got some stares n enquiries abt the car...
